Read aloud Amos 1:1 & 7:14-15.

Discuss how God does extraordinary things through ordinary people.

There are numerous references to the Lord in the Book of Amos (see 1:2, 3:13, 4:13). See the Study Help Five and discuss a favorite name for the Lord and why.

See 3:1; 3:13; 4:1; 5:1. Visit about the importance of the prophet’s message not being his own. The word “hear” appears several times in the book; and hundreds of times in the Old Testament. Talk about the importance of and practical ways we can hear the Lord better.

Sins are highlighted in Amos 5:12-15, 21-24. Focus on verse 24. We are told to seek the Lord and live; 5:4-6, 14. Discuss meaningful ways to seek the Lord.

Read Amos 6:1. Is complacency an affliction today? If so, how might it be combatted?

See Amos 7:7-9 & 8:1-2. What images are used here and what is their significance? Discuss the importance of seeing clearly what God has in store.

Read Amos 9:11-15 for Israel’s Restoration.
